Health Promotion and Disease Prevention: Lessons Learned from Cooperation in the HIV/AIDS Epidemic

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) and the Global Health Hub Germany (GHHG) cordially invite you to the online event

“Health Promotion and Disease Prevention: Lessons Learned from Cooperation in the HIV/AIDS Epidemic”

taking place on 8 July 2021, at 2 pm – 3:30 pm via MS Teams.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, health security became highly relevant to all of us – but global health comprises much more. Over the past 40 years, we have been collecting valuable experiences in health promotion and the prevention of disease, particularly in the context of the HIV-response. Building on these experiences, health promotion and disease prevention represent a key priority in the German Strategy for Global Health, adopted in October 2020. In the upcoming online event, Binod Mahanty (BMG) and Alexander Freese (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) will highlight relevant aspects of Germany’s commitment to Global Health as well as the chances and challenges for HIV-prevention. We will also learn about examples of prevention work in Germany from Dr Miriam Gerlich (Federal Centre for Health Education). Fortune Chibamba (National AIDS Council, Zambia) will give us some insights about health promotion activities in Zambia, while Peter Wiessner (Action against AIDS, Germany) will represent the point of view of German civil society in light of the Sustainable Development Goals. The discussion will be moderated by Dr Christoph Benn (Joep Lange Institute), who will invite the audience to ask questions. Your participation will be highly appreciated!

The online event will take place via MS Teams and it will be recorded.

Please kindly register for this event. After the registration you will receive an email with a confirmation and the dial-in link.

This event is part of the online event series of BMG and GHHG “Shaping health globally – from the German Global Health Strategy to shared commitment” which showcases the key priorities of the German Global Health Strategy, aiming for open discussions across sectors and stakeholders.

Please feel free to forward the invitation to your colleagues.

We look forward to a fruitful exchange!

Best regards,
